Frequently Asked Questions

What are the camp dates and hours?

There are six, one-week sessions running from June 16-July 25. There is no camp on June 19, July 3, and July 4.

Our summer camp hours are from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

Drop Off is between 8:30 AM and 9:00 AM; Pick Up is between 3:00 PM and 3:30 PM. Optional Extended Day can be added until 6:00 PM

What languages are offered?

We offer language-based summer camps in French and Spanish for children in who will be in grades Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 6 in the fall of 2025. Our immersive programs provide a fun and engaging environment for language learning.

Both the French and Spanish programs are offered at the Beginner level and the Intermediate/Advanced level.

Are lunches or snacks provided, or should I pack them?

WISummer currently does not offer lunch services, but we are excited to announce that hot lunch will be available in the summer of 2026! In the meantime, each camper will receive one peanut/tree nut-free snack daily. Families are also welcome to pack their own snacks to ensure everyone has something they enjoy.

Who are the staff?

WISummer staff are a dedicated team of talented and passionate bilingual educators. Many of our teachers work full-time at WIS, bringing a wealth of experience from language-based programs. Our counselors are college-age staff, with many being proud WIS alumni, ensuring a relatable and enriching environment for all participants. Together, they create a supportive and engaging atmosphere for our students to thrive.

What medical forms or immunizations are required?

The DC Universal Health Certificate (or equivalent) is required for all campers to participate in camp programs at WIS. Campers bringing medications, or with asthma requiring an inhaler or allergies requiring an auto epinephrine injector, must also submit action plans. Most forms require a physician's signature. Required paperwork can be found online and in your CampBrain portal, and is due prior to your camper beginning a session.

Is there a nurse or medical staff on site?

Yes. WISummer has a nurse on site during the camp day. All staff in the Extended Day program are trained in First Aid and CPR.

What types of activities are included in the camp schedule?

For our language camps, each day follows a similar schedule which includes free play on the playground, followed by language-based activities, lunch, outside play, and then electives. Electives are choice-based activities that campers do each afternoon and include activities such as sports & games, robotics, ceramics, dance, yoga, sewing, cooking, or other fun activities planned by the staff. Campers sign up for their afternoon electives on the first day of each session. All language-based activities are hands on, immersive, and project based, and are designed to learn or practice the target language in a developmentally appropriate (and fun!) way.

Are there field trips or special events?

Many of our camp programs for campers Grades 5-7 are trip-based programs where campers will go on a new off-site adventure each day.

For language day camps, a field trip or special guest may be incorporated into the weekly schedule as appropriate, but it is not part of the core program.

Will campers get to swim?

WIS does not have an on-site pool. For Early Years campers (Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten) on-site water play with sprinklers, splash pads, and water balloons is provided. For campers Grades 1-6, WIS works with DC Department of Parks and Recreation to arrange a field trip to a local pool once a session.

What is the cancellation or refund policy?

  • A $100 per-camper, per-session deposit is required to secure your spot at camp. Deposit amounts are applied toward the final camp balance.

  • Deposits are non-refundable and non-transferable at point of registration for all programs. Please check camp dates against other obligations and vacations before registering your camper.

  • Full payment is due on May 20. Before this date, refund requests will be honored minus the deposit and administrative fees. Summer at WIS offers a variety of payment options to help finance your camper's summer experience. Financial aid assistance is not available for summer camps.

  • Between May 20 and May 31, any refund requests will be refunded at 50% the cost of registration. The full cost of registration is non-refundable after May 31 for any reason.

  • Families who register after May 20 are required to pay in full at the time of registration.

What should my child bring to camp each day?

Campers have lockers to store items like a rain jacket/rain boots, sweater/sweatshirt, sunscreen, and other items. We will play outside rain or shine, so campers should come prepared. All campers must bring a reusable water bottle and a lunchbox to camp each day. A backpack is helpful to carry everything. Rest time is provided as part of the Early Years program, so a foldable bed-roll or blanket is recommended for rising Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten campers.

How do I make changes to my registration after submitting it?

After registration is complete, families cannot make changes to their camp registration on their own. Please contact summer@wis.edu to request changes to your camper's summer registration.
