French Camps: Grades 1-3

Our French Language Learning Camps are specially designed for campers who will be in Grades 1-3 in the Fall of 2025. Dive into the French language through hands-on activities, interactive games, and creative projects. Each week, we will explore a different French-speaking country, bringing its art, history, geography, music, dance, food, and traditions to life—all while building French language skills in a dynamic and playful environment!

Session 1: June 16-20

(no camp June 19)

Weekly Theme: Canada

Explorons le Canada! This week, campers will explore Canadian French and nature. Activities include:

  • Craft maple leaf decorations and learn about Canadian maple syrup production—even taste your own.

  • Create a miniature winter wonderland and explore the geography of Canada’s snowy regions.

  • Cook poutine (fries with cheese curds and gravy) and taste a popular Canadian dish.

  • Learn about Canada’s wildlife through fun nature exploration games and animal art projects.

  • And More!

All camp programming includes indoor and outdoor play, general camp activities like games, art, sports, nature exploration, and a once-weekly trip to the pool.

Session 2: June 23-27

Weekly Theme: Switzerland

C'est l'aventure en Suisse! This week, campers will explore Swiss culture and natural wonders. Activities include:​​

  • Build Swiss chalets with craft supplies and explore the geography of the Swiss Alps.

  • Try Swiss cheese fondue and learn the French words for different cheeses.

  • Learn a traditional Swiss yodeling song and practice fun vocal exercises.

  • Explore the famous Swiss watches through a craft project and talk about Swiss traditions.

Voyage en Martinique! This week, campers will explore Caribbean culture and tropical adventures. Activities include:​​

  • Craft Caribbean-inspired jewelry with bright beads and shells while practicing French vocabulary.

  • Explore Caribbean dance through fun lessons in styles like the kompa.

  • Cook Poulet de Colombo (Creole curry chicken dish) and enjoy a taste of Caribbean flavors.

  • Discover the island’s rich history and create a mini island model representing Martinique's tropical landscape.

  • And more!

Weekly Theme: France

Bienvenue en France! This week, campers will explore French culture and traditions. Activities include:

  • Learn about classic French art and architecture like the Eiffel Tower and Henri Matisse, and create art inspired by famous paintings in the Louvre.

  • Bake French croissants and taste test different French pastries.

  • Explore French history through interactive storytelling and dramatic play.

  • Examine the geography of France by creating a mini map of France and locating famous landmarks along the way.

Vive la Belgique! This week, campers will explore Belgian art and culture. Activities include:

  • Explore Belgian comics and create your own comic strip in French.

  • Make and enjoy Belgian waffles, and learn about their origins and ingredients.

  • Admire famous Belgian artists, such as René Magritte, and create surrealist-inspired art projects.

  • Learn about Belgium’s cities, such as Brussels, through fun geography games and activities.

Weekly Theme: Senegal

Enchanté par le Sénégal! This week, campers will explore Senegalese music and traditions. Activities include:​​

  • Discover Senegalese drumming and learn basic rhythms.

  • Cook Senegalese Yassa (a traditional chicken and rice dish) and explore Senegalese cuisine.

  • Create a Senegalese-inspired collage using vibrant colors and fabric.

  • Learn about Senegal’s wildlife through fun activities, making animal masks of native creatures.
